Key3 sees demand for LEAN consultancy increase Oct 2010
Lean techniques and Six Sigma have been around for many years but it appears that the logistics industry is now embracing the potential of these proven management tools rather vigourously.
"When I started consulting in 2001, Six Sigma in logistics was not very well utilised but now the larger 3PLs and logistics operations are starting to use it to great effect" states Craig Bunker, Managing Director of Key3 Partners.
Logistics and supply chain is a people and process driven business, so given these tools are fundamentally about improving business processes whilst engaging with the people who carry out the processes, it is no surprise that those who are embarking on the lean journey are seeing real benefits.
What next? The logistics and supply chain industry went headlong into quality and ISO standards intially as a differentiator, and now it is almost a minimum standard.
Is the application of lean business practice the next big thing to hit the sector?
